What Is CEREC CAD/CAM Dentistry?
CEREC is a chairside system that lets us take your tooth from a scan to a finished restoration.
- CAD: computer-aided design.
- CAM: computer-aided manufacturing.
Put simply, one designs the restoration, and the other builds it, right in our clinic. We diagnose the tooth, decide if it’s a good fit for this approach, review every design, and handle the fit and placement ourselves.
How the CEREC Digital Workflow Works
There are four steps, and they flow into each other: scan, design, manufacture, then finalize.
Digital Tooth Scanning
We use an intraoral scanner to capture a 3D picture of the tooth and the neighbouring teeth.
Computer-Aided Restoration Design
The software puts together a first draft of the restoration and gets things started. But nothing moves forward until we’ve checked it.
In-Clinic Manufacturing
Once we finalize the design, it’s sent to our in-office milling unit. That’s where the restoration gets made, from a block of ceramic or another suitable material.
Finalization and Clinical Evaluation
Before placement, our team checks the margins, contacts, bite, look, and fit.

How Does Computer-Aided Design Support a Restoration?
The software takes the scan and builds an initial restoration proposal. It’s worth noting that CEREC doesn’t replace clinical judgment. Our team goes through the proposal and fine-tunes the shape and the contact with nearby teeth. Every design gets checked before it’s approved.

How Our Dental Team Uses Digital Restorative Technology
Restorative treatment at our clinic is overseen by Dr. Alireza Golabchifar, who has 30 years of restorative experience and CAD/CAM training. Every scan and design passes through our clinical team before it’s placed.
