Traditional dental crowns have long been the method dentists use to strengthen weak teeth. Usually made of metal and porcelain, a crown reinforces the outer layer of a tooth compromised by decay or fracture.
Nowadays, dental practitioners are producing crowns in a single appointment with the help of CEREC. This system uses a computer and an on-site milling machine to design complete ceramic restorations in a single appointment.
I’m proud to offer this computer-assisted design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique right here at Empress Walk Dental. Here are a few reasons why I believe that a CEREC dental crown is an optimal choice for my patients:
- Save Time with CEREC
A CEREC crown means one appointment, one numbing session, no wait, and no messy temporary restorations. Traditional crowns require at least two separate appointments: the preparation and a crown placement about two weeks later. Think of the time you can save! Not only are you consolidating two visits into one, but you’re also taking less time away from work or classes to care for your smile.
- You'll get a Great Fit
CEREC’s camera takes a perfect scan of your tooth and let’s me manipulate the virtual 3D image on the computer. This way, I can design the most accurate crown margin possible. Even if your crown does need adjusting, we can take care of that right away instead of sending it back to a lab.
- CEREC Crowns are Metal-Free
Being that CEREC crowns are made of solid porcelain, there is no silver base involved (as with traditional porcelain fused to metal crowns.) This eliminates the “grey line” that is visible along the gumlines following conventional treatments. As such, aesthetics are improved, but we are also able to achieve a greater bond with the underlying tooth structure.
With over 20 years of experience in restorative dentistry, I can confidently recommend a CEREC crown for almost anyone. To find out if one of these restorations is right for you, schedule a visit to our North York office.
