What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Our office accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) to help ease financial barriers to accessing oral health care for eligible Canadian residents. Our team is committed to helping you achieve a healthier smile. Please contact our office to book your appointment now at (416) 250-8000 or info@empresswalkdental.com.

What you should know about the CDCP

Once enrolled, the welcome package you receive from Sun Life will include the date you can start seeing an oral health provider. Appointments can only be scheduled on or after your coverage start date.

How can I enrol?

Eligible individuals can apply online: Visit the Canada Revenue Agency application page for the CDCP.

PLEASE NOTE:

This is not a free dental program. Depending on your adjusted family net income, patients may have to make a co-payment of up to 60%. You may also have to pay costs the CDCP does not cover. The CDCP does not cover all dental services. Before you start any treatment, you should understand your dental care costs. Please let us know if you plan to use the CDCP benefits.

Important Updates for CDCP Renewal

As part of the Canadian Dental Care Plan's (CDCP) eligibility process, CDCP clients must renew their coverage every year to confirm that they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The renewal process started in March 2025 for the (CDCP) new coverage benefit year beginning June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

If you are currently covered under the CDCP, you can expect to receive a letter from the Government of Canada informing you that you need to renew your coverage prior to June 1, 2025, and how to do so.

Renewal Process for CDCP

  • File your 2024 tax return (same for your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable). You must receive your 2024 Notice of Assessment issued by the Canada Revenue Agency before starting the CDCP renewal process.
  • Submit your renewal application by June 1, 2025. Renewal applications can be completed online at Canada.ca/dental, through their My Service Canada account at canada.ca/msca, or by calling 1-833-537-4342 (teletypewriter (TTY) at 1-833-677-6262).
  • You will receive a confirmation letter from the Government of Canada outlining your eligibility.

What can you expect if you are still eligible?

For CDCP clients that remain eligible under the plan, the letter will include:

  • The new coverage benefit period start date, which for the majority should be June 1, 2025, but could be later, depending on when you renew.
  • Any changes to your co-payment (if applicable) will take effect as of your new coverage benefit period and will be valid until June 30, 2026.
  • You will be encouraged to bring this letter to your next dental appointment.

CDCP verification is required as of June 1, 2025

As of June 1, 2025, we will need to verify that you are still covered under the plan and if your co-payment level has changed before providing services. Any estimates or preauthorization submissions previously approved will not be valid if you are no longer covered under the plan and the care is received after June 30, 2025.
